Less than half of citizens are employed in the economy of Belarus
In 2019, 4330.1 thousand people were employed in the economy of the Republic. The number of industry employed in the economy is leading, the National Statistical Committee of Belarus reports in a review by May 1. The industry employed 23.6% of the total, and another 14.6% engaged in wholesale and retail trade, car and motorcycle repairs. 10.4% and 9% were employed in agriculture, forestry and fisheries. Other economic activities are listed in the second largest group (19%). The number of officials and security forces in official statistics is absent. The sectoral structure of the employed population is characterized by a higher proportion of workers in the service sector. In 2019, the share of workers in this sphere amounted to 61.2%, Belstat noted. According to the Statistical Committee's sample survey, 2019, specialized secondary 33.1%, vocational 23.1%, general secondary 28.5% and general basic (including general primary) 13.9% had higher education among the population employed in the economy in 1.4%. The proportion of women with higher education was 39.2%, and among men it was 27%. 36.2% men and 20.9% women have vocational education. Unemployment in Belarus is much higher than in the reports of the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection. According to the sample survey of Belstat, the employment rate of the population of the Republic last year was 67.7%, among the population of working age 83.4%. For 2019 the nominal charged average monthly wage of workers of Republic of Belarus without micro ‑ and the small organizations without departmental subordination was 1090.9 rubles, Belstat reported. At the exchange rate of the National Bank of Belarus at the end of the year this amount in Belarusian rubles was equivalent to $520. Now it's equivalent to $450.
