EU offers assistance to Belarus in talks with opposition
The European Union will support the authorities of Belarus in establishing a dialogue with the opposition and citizens, the EU Council said in a statement following an informal meeting held on August 14 via video conference. The High Representative (EU ed.) And his services will immediately begin work on this proposal, the statement said. It is noted that following the meeting, the ministers of European countries agreed that the elections in Belarus were neither free nor fair, and therefore would not be recognized in the European Union. In addition, the EU Council called on Minsk to immediately stop the persecution of peaceful demonstrators and begin investigations into all alleged abuses during the detention of protesters.
