Activists hold protest at the entrance to the Parliament of Georgia in Tbilisi

The protest at the entrance to the Parliament of Georgia in Tbilisi was started by protesters on the morning of February 17. This is reported by Imedi TV channel. According to journalists, protesters gathered near the parliament against the election of the second time the Prosecutor General of Georgia Irakliya Shotadze. On that day, parliamentarians should consider his candidature for the vacant post. One activist said he had permission to enter and tried to walk into the parliament building, but he was not allowed by security. There was an exchange between activists and guards. Protesters near the other entrance to the building hung sneakers, which they believe are a symbol of the current power. According to the news agency, Shotadze was previously the Prosecutor General of Georgia. In May 2018, he resigned due to street protests carried out by Zaza Saralidze, the father of a schoolboy killed in Tbilisi. Protesters accused the Prosecutor General's Office of commuting the sentence of the killer. When the position of Prosecutor General was vacated at the end of 2019, Shotadze applied for participation in the contest. His candidature was chosen by the Prosecutor's Council.
