World Bank to allocate €52.5 million to Moldova to combat COVID-19

On 24 April, the World Bank approved a 52.5 million loan from the International Development Association (part of the World Bank) to Moldova to take urgent measures to combat the coronavirus pandemic. This was reported in the press service of the international financial organization. According to the World Bank, emergency measures will be to strengthen Moldova's health system and reduce social risks. The project will also help the poor and vulnerable to better cope with the immediate impact of the pandemic through social protection measures, the report said. The international financial organization project will purchase diagnostic equipment, laboratory consumables, personal protective equipment, protection kits for medical personnel working in primary health care facilities and hospitals, medical equipment, drugs and consumables for intensive care units and emergency medical vehicles. The project also includes training of medical personnel in the care of patients, COVID-19 patients, prevention of infectious diseases and strengthening of the capacity of medical personnel of Moldova to carry out intensive care. The funds allocated within the framework of the project of the international financial structure will also contribute to the expansion of the main program of Moldova to combat poverty Ajutor Social and will make changes to its structure. These changes will increase support for the most affected groups, especially families with children. All of this will further improve the effectiveness of the Ajutor Social program in addressing the problems posed by the COVID-19 outbreak, the report said.
