Iran and Tunisia discuss strengthening parliamentary ties

On June 17, the Iranian ambassador to Tunisia and the chairman of the Assembly of People's Representatives of Tunisia emphasized the importance of strengthening relations between the parliaments of the two countries and revitalizing the work of the friendship committee of Iran and Tunisia. This was reported by the Iranian agency IRNA. Iranian Ambassador Mohammad-Reza Raouf-Sheibani and Tunisian Parliament Speaker Rashid al-Ghannouchi met in the presence of Tunisian Deputy Speaker Tarek Fatiti and Chairman of the Committee on Rights, Freedoms and External Relations Samah Dammak. Rauf-Sheibani conveyed to al-Ghannouchi the message of the Speaker of the Majlis of Iran Mohammed-Baqer Kalibaf. The Iranian ambassador noted that the Iranian parliament confirms the need to expand inter-parliamentary relations and strengthen economic, political and cultural ties between the two countries. On behalf of the Government and people of Iran, he congratulated the Tunisian Parliament on the advent of the revolution and the entry into the path of democracy, expressing the hope that the country will achieve its goal, and the experience of building democracy itself will be successful. The Iranian ambassador to Tunisia also expressed Tehran's readiness to support the country in its endeavors. Al-Ghannushi stressed the importance of expanding ties between trade and economic institutions and parliaments of the two countries. He noted that Iran and Tunisia had long-standing relations and shared common ideas on many regional and international issues, including Palestinian. He expressed the hope that Iran and Tunisia would create opportunities for dialogue using the principles of equality, justice, freedom and democracy.
