Latvian Constitutional Court to rule on minimum income case
Today, June 25, the Constitutional Court of Latvia will rule on the compliance of the minimum level of income with the Constitution of the country. The plaintiff in this case was Ombudsman Juris Jansons. About this writes the portal Lsm.lv. The essence of the claim of the state human rights activist is that the minimum income level established by the Latvian government of 64 euros does not meet the human needs for food, living and other vital needs. The position of the Latvian government is that raising the minimum income bar will lead to demotivation for people to look for work. Jansons insists that in determining the size of the allowance, the Latvian government did not rely on any methodology, since even preliminary estimates indicate that the monthly cost of food and accommodation is about 300 euros.
